Hieu
“Yeah I know life‘s never been easy like the movies we‘ve seen
No fairytales, happy endings or teenage dreams”
So go the words of the song easy by Berlin singer-songwriter HIEU – a melancholic and perhaps also pessimistic view of life and growing up. Typical of the young musician – because being his own worst enemy is his greatest source of inspiration.
Without the voices in his head that keep putting him to the test, most of his songs, which he writes in both English and German, would certainly never have come about. In them he dives into an endlessly large sea of questions without answers: why am I in this world, is there a place for me, how do you steer a seemingly sinking ship, what waits beyond the horizon, will I ever reach it?
With a warm pop voice that nevertheless holds its own in the higher registers, HIEU serves various facets of pop, from EDM via rockier songs to stripped-back guitar and piano songs. He combines catchy melodies and relatable lyrics with pulsating synths, distorted guitars, piano and vocal chops, so that an earworm sticks with the listener after the very first chorus.
