What can you do in the area before or after the festival?

The Ries is a very popular destination for hikers, cyclists, canoeists, bouldering and climbing enthusiasts, and offers plenty of room for all kinds of sporting activities.

The cultural and historical side certainly isn’t neglected in our Ries Geopark either. Besides historic towns such as Oettingen and Nördlingen, once part of the Roman Empire, you can travel much further back along the timeline and marvel at a cosmic catastrophe from over 14.5 million years ago in the crater landscape. Back then an asteroid struck the Earth and carved out a huge crater whose impressive traces can still be seen today.

Of course there are plenty of options for camping enthusiasts, from tent pitches and campsites to the absolute insider tips you will pick up in conversations at the festival.
