The Show Must Go On – glam rock legend The Sweet go on tour live once more with all the hits like Ballroom Blitz and Fox On The Run

The Sweet are one of the few famous and notorious “glam rock bands” that had chart successes in the 70s, 80s and 90s. They have sold over 30 million records and are still a “live” touring band. The Sweet offer much more than just glam rock – their music is timeless and versatile. From pure pop to heavy metal, from songs like Little Willy with only three chords to complex arrangements like Love Is Like Oxygen. Andy Scott has now been performing on stages worldwide for decades. Almost all shows in recent years were sold out. THE SWEET have thus lost none of their radiance.

1970 was an important year: Sweet with Andy Scott, Steve Priest, Mick Tucker and Brian Connolly met the songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and record producer Phil Wainmann. This five-year partnership produced twelve top-twenty hits, including a number one. The media then claimed that the band was a manufactured band. The hardcore fans knew better. On the B-sides of the hits were their own heavy rock compositions. The live performances were sensational, and not only because of the music. Members of the band were arrested in Belgium for an obscene stage performance. All of that only boosted their image.

US hits included Ballroom Blitz, later heard in the film “Wayne’s World”, Fox On The Run, a number two, Action, later a hit for Def Leppard, and Love Is Like Oxygen at number five. Their album Desolation Boulevard went gold. Love Is Like Oxygen was Sweet’s first worldwide hit in three years. The song, written by guitarist Andy Scott, was awarded two Novello Awards. Sweet had finally reached their goal – recognition in Great Britain. Then the almost unbelievable happened: singer Brian Connolly left the band in January 1979. The remaining trio carried on like a three-piece suite, as they were once described, but despite some hits in Europe and three more albums, after a final tour in Great Britain in 1981 it was all over.

The band had 9 number-one titles in Germany during the 70s and is now on the verge of its tenth success: Do It All Over Again, the first single from the new album Sweetlife, which is now finally available in Germany too.
