Innovation, perseverance and adaptability – these words have already been used to describe the sailing ships that helped Columbus discover America (the caravel), and could not be more fitting to describe the young band Caravel, who set out just as effortlessly on their journey through the sea of rock music.
The young five-piece band formed in the very first week of studies at the renowned Popakademie in Mannheim, and the band members have been inseparable ever since. Some may get nostalgic at names like Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple.
Although their heyday was long before the band members were born, the feeling and the sound of that era quickly gripped the group, especially frontwoman Chiara Kilchling. The singer and songwriter, who began her career as a child in opera ensembles, today loves the unique folk touch of her voice, which gives Caravel's music its modern and unique note.
Combined with crisp riffs and a fresh approach, Caravel have created a number of songs full of youthful lightness and a straightforward attitude. Musically the band pulls out all the stops, is not afraid to swim against the tide of trends and proves that rock music is far more than dusty nostalgia for the past.
