It is hard to put Esmeralda’s music in a pigeonhole. And one should also keep one’s hands off doing so. Merging a drum kit with a piano is a risky business. Missing here are the instruments that actually make up a rock band.

Rich bass lines fed by electrifying guitar sounds. But that is exactly the pigeonhole Esmeralda want to avoid, or, put differently, cannot do otherwise!

The art of crafting a symbiosis out of two instruments that are not “biologically” close is, with the two musicians Timm Schauen (drums) and Murat Parlak (vocals and piano), in a league of its own. An original song is an original song and a cover is a cover. That basic view may apply to many artists.

But isn’t it the case that a Beethoven symphony is covered just like a “Country Roads”? Where are the boundaries for calling one art a “cover” and another not?

Esmeralda pursue this question and treat a Nirvana, Radiohead or Depeche Mode song just like a fugue by Bach or a sonata by Beethoven.
